We have had a lovely day out today to meet a Cyber friend Dougie.

He lives a dream life of 6 month’s in the USA in their RV and 6 months here in his house and traveling around in his new to him Caravan

He has a wonderful Blog  http://rv-and.us/travel/

We have been cyber friends since 2007 so it was brill to be meeting at last. We walked Louis early as he wasnt going and then set off for Sutton nr Deal to the Caravan site Dougie was staying in.

He had been to France yesterday on a Ferry deal with MyFerry but he did have a lot of rain so its not only UK getting all this weather.

When you leave the A2 that runs to Dover you turn into very narrow roads -gosh you wonder how all the Motorhomes and Caravans get down there. We had to keep pulling in to let other cars by.

Pulling into the site I could see just one Caravan so it had to be Dougie and as I walked up he saw me.

Ray and I greeted and said hello. ahhh

After a chat we decided to go into deal and walk along the sea front. I was able to show him the 2 castles that are there and also the Bandstand that was put up in the memory of the young soldiers that were in the IRA Bombing of their Deal Barracks at and were killed along with some Horses.

1989: Ten dead in Kent barracks bomb

A devastating explosion at an army barracks in Kent has killed 10 young soldiers.

The republican group IRA has said it planted the bomb which blew apart the recreation centre at the Royal Marine School of Music in Deal.

Twenty-two men were also injured in the blast just before 0830 GMT – eight seriously – and two are still missing, feared buried under the rubble. Most of the victims were teenagers.

It was a sad day

We walked then to the Time Ball

Time Ball Tower Museum, Deal

We had missed the drop as they do it at One oclock and it was 1.10pm.

After walking all the way along and asking a Man what they were doing on the sea front as they have dug an area up. he said it a construction of a new wave wall, approximately 400m along, along the promenade between the Royal Hotel and Deal Castle as well  as 250m of improved rock protection along the existing embankment, to strengthen the beach just north of Sandown Castle and increasing the volume of shingle on the beach from the northern part of the extended rock revetment to Deal Castle.

All interesting work

We walked back to the car and went to find our Lunch at the Swingate Inn

The Swingate Inn and Hotel

The Fish and Chips were excellent

And the sweet was divine the prettiest bread and butter pudding I have seen.

Ray had an Eaton mess –It was called this as it originated at Eaton Collage and they used to serve it in the tuck shop.

Full up we drove back to the camping site and went to the Caravan where Dougie had found he didnt have the key. Ray said is it in the boot? and Dougie then found the keys on the grass. they had been there where he had dropped them on the way out, if he had parked on them he would never have found them.

We had a coffee and a final chat before we walked to our car and said our goodbyes and the drove home.

It has been a good day the sun has shone all day and we have really enjoyed our day out.
